Last weekend the CS-final was held in Langenfeld. Most top German drivers participated this race as a warm-up for the upcoming German Nationals to be held next month in Ingolstadt. The control tyre for this event was the Sorex 28R, which was also chosen for the German National Championship.

On Saturday morning the race started with three controlled practice sessions followed by three qualification rounds. In practice the track was still slippery so I started with a medium/soft chassis setting.

When the bite finally came up I changed the flex setting to medium/stiff. Because of the use of the Sorex tyres I had to change the setup quite a lot. With these tyres the balance of the car changed a lot with much more steering than, for example, Take Off tyres. I observed that other drivers also had oversteering problems.

Tony Vredenberg participated in race and he soon came to the conclusion we had to run more front camber to take away some steering – so we changed from -1.5 to -2.5! This made the car much more stable and it had just enough steering!

When the traction at the end of the day was very high, we decided to try more damping so we went from 3 holes 30W oil, to 2 holes open. This was a great improvement. The car had more corner speed and was still very responsive.

Sunday morning started with the last two qualifiers followed by three finals for all participants. In the last two rounds the traction came up and most drivers improved their best times from Saturday. This gave me the TQ spot with Corally’s Marc Fisher in second and the XRAY T2 from Alexander Stocker in third. Tony struggled a bit in the qualifiers but was definitely on pace for an A-main spot!

In the A-main my car was still very good and easy to drive. The traction was pretty high now so many drivers had problems with traction rolling. At the end I won all three mains. Alexander just missed the podium because of a race accident with Marc Fisher in the last main.
